CARL BRENDERS
(1937 -
)
Born
near Antwerp, Belgium, Carl Brenders studied at the Fine Arts
Academy in Antwerp and later at Berchem. His childhood
fascination and deep respect for animals and the natural world
is clearly evident in his highly detailed paintings that
capture the extreme realism of birds, mammals and their
natural habitat.
Carl’s wildlife images are first created from pencil sketches.
It is from these sketches that his mixed-media paintings of
watercolor and gouache are completed with a technique he has
developed during the last 25 years.
Brenders has produced wildlife illustrations for more than 20
books in a series titled "The Secret Life of Animals". His
paintings have been included in many prestigious exhibitions
including the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum’s “Birds in Art”
show, and his art is the subject of a book titled "Wildlife:
The Nature Painting of Carl Brenders".
He divides his time between homes in Belgium and France.
